Kruja ;Lezha; Shkodra
Leave Tirana early in the morning. Stop for few hours in Kruja. Visit famous Kruja’s“old bazaar”. Visit the Skanderbeg museum, Albanian’s National Hero. Continue to Lezha, where you can enjoy an optional fish or seafood lunch. Visit Skanderbeg’s Mausoleum. Our journey continues to Shkodra. Optional hike to the famous Rozafa castle in Shkodra (you can also use the minibus to go there). Learn at the castle about an old Albanian legend of motherhood and sacrifice. Dinner and overnight in Shkodra.The total drive would be aprox112 km.
We use the day to drive from Shkodra to Prizren (Kosovo). We drive approx 185 km and cross the border between Albania and Kosovo. We spend the evening at our leisure in Prizren. We use the remaining of the day to stroll along the streets of the city, or hike in the trails of Mount Sharr. The Albanian bus and the English-speaking Albanian guide will be with us.
Visit the historic town of Prizren and then drive for about 274 km to Berat. We stop to the city of Durres. We visit the archeological museum and the medieval Amphitheater; stroll on the streets along the beach. We continue to Berat.Take the bus and drive to the city of Berat. One of the oldest cities in Albania, Berat is known as the “City of 1000 Windows” and become UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008. We will visit a well – preserved and inhabited castle and a museum of icons painted by Onufri, the famous 16th century Albanian icon painter. We use the afternoon to climb the nearby Mount Tomorr. Not to miss here the traditional home cooked dishes. Locals are very friendly. We overnight in Berat and enjoy the view of lit “1000 windows”.
Early morning breakfast and drive for aprx158 km from Berat to Gjirokastra. The museum city of Gjirokastra is known as “the city of stone” due to its predominance in almost the entire architecture of the city. It is an UNESCO World Heritage site since 2005. Gjirokastra has the largest castle in the country which houses the largest Museum of Arms in the country. We overnight at a resort that overlooks the city.
We drive for approx 60km to Saranda. Stop for a coffee and photo-shooting break at Lekuresi Castle. From the castle we enjoy a breathtaking view of Ionian coastal city of Saranda. Optional hike on the area trails. We continue our drive for approx 25 km to Butrint National Park.The park has great scientific, touristic and archeological values, as well as high levels of biodiversity. The park is an UNESCO site since 1992. Optional Lunch.We return for overnight to the city of Saranda.
